SFS Public School Secures Second Place in Interschool Chess Championship 2025

 

Ettumanoor: The 16th Interschool Chess Championship 2025, hosted by SFS Public School, Ettumanoor, on Saturday, 20 September, witnessed spirited participation from 700 students representing 50 schools under Sahodaya Kottayam.

 

The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Nimmy A. George, Women International Master, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. She emphasized the role of chess in sharpening the minds of students during her inaugural address. The function was presided over by Rev. Dr. Manu K.V., School Manager.

 

The event began with a grand opening ceremony at 9:00 a.m., highlighted by a procession led by the school band. The day-long competition concluded in the evening with Kottayam Sahodaya President Benny George presiding over the valedictory session.

 

In the results, Chavara CMI Public School, Pala, emerged champions, while SFS Public School, Ettumanoor, secured the second position, and Lourdes Public School, Kottayam, claimed third place. The top ten winners in all three categories received trophies and certificates, and all participants were awarded certificates of participation.

Paadheyam Snehappothi

Paadheyam Snehappothi – A Mission of Compassion by SFS Students

 

Under the guidance of Nallapadam volunteers, the students of SFS Public School, Ettumanoor have launched a noble initiative – the distribution of homemade lunch packets to the less fortunate in the community. This charitable venture, titled Paadheyam Snehappothi, takes place every Wednesday afternoon at the Ettumanoor private bus stand.

 

The project was inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Lovely George Padikara, who commended the students for setting an inspiring example of generosity and social responsibility.

 

On the occasion, Municipal Secretary G. Binuji, Principal Fr Dr Roy P.K., and Administrator Fr Binod Puthanpurackal shared their thoughts, emphasizing the importance of kindness and community support through such initiatives.

 

This weekly program stands as a testament to the values of compassion and service that SFS School seeks to instill in its students.

Onam & Teachers’ Day Celebration

SFS Public School Celebrates Independence Day with Patriotic Zeal

SFS Public School celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm, unity, and national pride. The entire school community came together to honor the nation’s rich heritage and pay tribute to the heroes who fought for India’s freedom.

The day began with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony, where the tricolour was unfurled with reverence, accompanied by the national anthem. It was followed by a spirited Tiranga Rally, where students marched across the campus holding the national flag high, spreading messages of unity, freedom, and patriotism.

A special assembly was held to mark the occasion. The inspiring Independence Day message reminded everyone of the importance of freedom and the responsibilities it brings. An energetic patriotic dance performance captured the spirit of the nation and left the audience moved and inspired. A soulful patriotic song, beautifully rendered by the students, which resonated with pride and unity.

A major highlight of the celebration was the address by the Principal, Rev. Dr. Roy P. K, who delivered an impactful and thought-provoking speech. The celebration brought together voices of hope, pride, and commitment.

Fruits Week (6/8/25 – 13/8/25)

On 13th August, Kindergarten Students celebrated Fruit Salad Day by cutting, preparing, and serving fruit salad to the children. The activity aimed to reinforce the concept of fruits and encourage healthy eating habits. Throughout the week, children were introduced to a variety of fruits in class and enjoyed engaging colouring activities. The celebration was a joyful and enriching experience, where children had fun while exploring and learning something new.

Ayur Ruchi: Embracing Health Through Tradition

On Friday, 08 August 2025, the Nallapadam volunteers of SFS Public School organized Ayur Ruchi, a unique wellness initiative inspired by Manorama’s campaign, “Nadu, Nanma, Arogyam” (Land, Goodness, Health). The program aimed to promote traditional Kerala dietary practices for better health.

Members of the Cookery Club prepared classic dishes like Karkidaka Kanji and Pathila Thoran, which were inaugurated by Principal Fr Dr Roy P.K., who also conducted an informative session on Karkidakam dietary traditions.

 

Students enthusiastically participated, tasting medicinal foods and learning about exotic Ayurvedic plants. The event offered a meaningful blend of heritage, health, and hands-on learning.

Beat Plastic Pollution

“Beat Plastic Pollution” Campaign at SFS School

On August 1, 2025, SFS School took a strong stand against plastic pollution with the launch of the “Beat Plastic Pollution campaign, led by the Nallapaadam volunteers. The program was inaugurated by Ettumanoor Municipal Chairperson Mrs. Lovely George Padikara, who also introduced plastic bottle collection booths at the campus. Over 3,000 plastic bottles and numerous used plastic pens were handed over to the Haritha Karma Sena as part of the initiative.

A memorandum, signed by nearly 2,500 students, staff, and parents, urging the Municipality to curb plastic use at public events, was presented to the Chairperson. Mrs. Padikara commended the students for their proactive efforts.

The event was coordinated under the guidance of School Manager Rev. Dr. Manu K.V., Principal Rev. Dr. Roy P.K., and Administrator Fr. Binod Puthanpurakkal.

A TREE FOR A FRIEND CAMPAIGN

A Tree For a Friend Campaign

Ettumanoor:  On Thursday, 17 July 2025, the school initiated a campaign titled ‘A Tree for a Friend’. The Nallapaadam volunteers motivated the students to join this campaign as part of the Navakeralam Karma Project-2 of the Haritha Kerala Mission. The campaign was set rolling by Mrs Viji Chavara, member of Ward 32 of Ettumanoor Municipality. School principal Dr Roy PK conveyed his best wishes for the success of this project.

Students brought saplings and flower plants from their homes and exchanged with their friends. Mrs Viji exhorted the students to care for the plants just like they’d care for their best pals. The aim of this campaign is to motivate students to do what they can to mitigate the miseries associated with global warming and climate change.

School manager Rev Dr Manu KV, principal Rev Dr Roy PK, and administrator Fr Binod Puthanpurakkal offered leadership for the campaign.

Colour Week Celebration

 

We celebrated Colour Week to help our young learners understand colour concepts in a fun and creative way. Each class enjoyed different colouring activities throughout the week.

 

On Wednesday, 16th July, children came to school dressed in the colour theme assigned to their class. Colourful objects were displayed in classrooms, and students went on a Colour Tour to explore other classes and enjoy a bright, colourful experience.

 

It was a week full of fun, learning, and excitement as children discovered the magical world of colours!

CARPE DIEM: A Celebration of Talent and Spirit

SFS Youth Festival 2025, CARPE DIEM: A Celebration of Talent and Spirit

 

The SFS Youth Festival 2025 unfolded in vibrant fashion between 14–15 July, with offstage events kicking off earlier on 28 June. The festival proved to be a grand showcase of student talent, creativity, and energy—bringing the entire campus alive with art, music, and color.

 

Renowned stage artiste and singer Arun Guinness graced the occasion as chief guest, captivating the audience with a spectacular 30-minute performance that set the tone for the days to follow. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest in the presence of Dr Roy P.K., Principal; Dr Manu K.V., Manager; and Fr Binod Puthanpurakkal, Administrator.

 

The competitions took off swiftly after the inauguration, featuring an impressive 72 events across five categories, conducted simultaneously on eight stages. The diversity of performances and the sheer enthusiasm of the participants created a vibrant atmosphere, with the audience cheering passionately throughout.

 

The final day, 15 July, concluded on a high note with an energetic closing ceremony. Gryphon House was crowned overall champion, followed by Centaur House in second place and Cygnus House in third.

 

As the curtains fell on this two-day extravaganza, what remained were unforgettable memories, the joy of participation, and the spirit of healthy competition that brought the SFS community closer than ever.
