Pedal for a Greener Planet
A cycle rally for a greener planet:
SFS Public School occupies a pivotal position in the town of Ettumanoor. Its commitment to social issues makes it unique insofar as it has …set in motion a project to live in the lap of nature without hurting its finer sensibilities. “Pedal for a greener planet” was a project undertaken by the Nallapaadam workers at the school as volunteers took out a cycle rally through the heart of the town on Saturday, 23 November 2024, crisscrossing the far corners of the suburbs.
Caritas Hospital’s senior consultant and head of general medicine Dr Jibu Eapen Mathew flagged off the rally at the school yard. He often rides cycle during the day as part of his mission to encourage the preservation of nature. School manager Fr Jose Parappillil wished the cyclists a safe trip through the town.
Cycling is a healthy alternative to the use of motor vehicles which consume petroleum products and pollute the atmosphere. Cycling is to be made part of daily living. Starting at 10.30 a.m., the rallyists crossed the KNB junction and planted flower plants on the roadsides before returning to the school an hour later. Dr Jibu accompanied the students on his cycle. All cyclists carried placards on their cycles carrying the message of a greener planet for healthier living. Several teachers and parents’ representatives accompanied the students and encouraged them in their mission.
Fr Jose Parappillil, School Principal Dr Roy P. K, Vice Principal Fr Kelvin Olikkunnel and School Administrator Fr Binod Puthanpurackal were present throughout the programme.Show More
