SFS Public School & Junior College was established in 2003 by the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, a congregation which had its origin in France. The congregation is the embodiment of the dream and vision of the Servant of God Fr. Peter Marie Mermier. The Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales commit themselves to the apostolate of education as one of their charisms and as an expression of their concern for total human development, inspired by gospel values. SFS Public School & Junior College aims to brighten the future of every person with whom we come in contact, with a “Salesian spirit of attentiveness to the individual, characterized by firmness and gentleness,” making him or her useful to society and helping all to become aware of their own dignity and destiny

As a teenaged institution, SFS School has a relatively light history to speak of. Starting in June 2003, SFS School grew like a little acorn and today has assumed a banyan-like dimension in the psyche of Ettumanoor.
If the enrollment in the initial years did not suffice to break even, the current figure of 2,214 students in Pre-KG to Std XII has been a quantum jump, attracting students from Kasaragod to Kanyakumari, with dozens of overseas students in the higher classes.
All our students unexceptionably have performed incredibly well in their board examinations and secured prestigious positions in professional colleges. It has created waves and marked the beginning of a brave new saga in the school’s annals.
The secret of its success lies in the belief that there is no shortcut to success except through hard work. Here teachers and students alike strive day and night to acquire knowledge through dint of hard work. The result is there for everyone to see. The tradition of a hundred-percent success has been kept going through the last 20 years.
Managers and Principals have changed over the years but the basic principles of the institution remain unchanged. With the advancing years, SFS has established itself as a sine-qua-non in the educational scenario of Ettumanoor. Our ‘ambition’ is to stay in that slot for many decades
The Missionaries of St Francis de Sales (MSFS), also known as the Fransalians, was founded in Annecy, France, on 24 October 1838, by Fr Mermier, under the patronage of St Francis de Sales. Fr Mermier’s idea was to bring about a spiritual renewal of his people by preaching parish missions. This special apostolate, in turn, gave rise to a community of preachers gathered around Fr Mermier.
The MSFS was founded in response to a desire of St Francis de Sales to found a society of missionary priests. Nearly two centuries after the Saint’s death, his successor in the See of Annecy broached the subject of such a society to Fr Mermier who had been considering the same idea.
Accordingly, Fr Mermier put the design into execution. In 1830, the institute was formed with La Feuillette as the site for the mother-house. It was blessed by the bishop in August 1837, and the congregation canonically instituted by him on 08 October 1838. Fr Mermier, the first superior general, offered himself and his companions to the Pope for foreign missions. In 1845, his offer was accepted by the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and the first missionaries set out for India.
The first batch of the MSFS landed in Pondicherry in September 1845, and they reached Visakhapatnam on 19 February 1846.
The Fransalians went to England in 1861. Since 1903, the congregation has been obliged to leave Savoy for England, where the juvenate, the novitiate and the house of studies are successfully carried on.
The South-West India Province was established in 1991, bifurcating the Visakhapatnam Province. SFS Public School, Ettumanoor, is run by this Province [SWIP].
Fr Peter Marie Mermier, the founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St Francis de Sales, was born in Annecy, France, in 1790. He entered the seminary in Annecy, and was ordained priest in 1813. He died in 1862, and Pope John Paul II raised him to the status of Servant of God.
Fr Mermier was interested in starting a congregation for preaching missions abroad. With the support of a few fellow-priests, he founded the MSFS Congregation which received canonical approval in 1838. For Fr Mermier, the Salesian spirituality was all-embracing and pastorally effective. Mermier felt proud of his native saint, SFS. He wanted the members of his congregation to be contemplatives in action and mystics of God’s love.
The invitation of Pope Gregory XVI to extend missionary activities to the Church in Asia and Africa was the answer for Mermier’s prayer and longing. The congregation was invited to take up pastoral activities in the Apostolic Vicariate of Visakhapatnam in 1846. The MSFS today work in 26 countries, starting with India in 1845 and ending with Poland in 2003.
